Do former Thälmann pioneers, pioneers of electronic music, entrepreneurs working at their own risk, freelance artists, pioneer soldiers, early movers and space explorers have anything in common? The piece takes as its starting point the multi-layered and extremely contradictory figure of the pioneer. What role did they play in the era of real existing socialism? How does it relate to the myth of the flexible and networked innovator and pioneer in contemporary start-up entrepreneurship?
In the form of a concert performance in which the two protagonists interact with the pioneering instruments of electronic music. The stage gradually fills with white paper, whose rustling, tearing and crackling begin to become part of a composition. The paper becomes eternal ice that is traversed, mountains that must be climbed, transforming into a setting for socialist sports competitions and its choreographies in the stadium. Wing constructions made of paper are reminiscent of early attempts at flight. SKILLS break new ground to find out how all this could have taken such a hold on us.
